    General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant. Since 1942, Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) has been committed to helping Air Force members and their families realize their academic goals. AFAS awards grants for those continuing their education through the General Henry "Hap" Arnold Grant program. Application is open to members, spouses and graduating high school seniors continuing their education. AFAS plan to award up to 3,000 grants for 2015 - 2016. Deadline for submission is 13 Mar.

    Volunteers Needed! The Airman's Attic is recruiting volunteers to work from 10 am to 2 pm each Tues & Thur, and the first Sat of each month from 9 am to 1 pm. Child Care costs can be covered through the Air Force Aid Volunteer Child Care Program, utilizing the Family Child Care Providers. If you are interested, please contact the Airman & Family Readiness Center.

   Smooth Move Workshop. Helps member to be more prepared for PCS moves. 11 Feb, 9 to 11 am. Sign up by calling today!

   
Transition GPS. This 5-day workshop is designed to prepare those leaving the military with employment skills necessary to secure employment in the civilian sector. Attendees will learn the job process, understand vacancy announcements, resume preparation, the job interview, salary negotiation, and other valuable skills. The workshop will be held 9 - 13 and 23 - 27 Feb starting each morning at 8 am. Please call to sign up, seating is limited.

    
Private Sector Resumé. Workshop tailored to private sector resumés for private businesses. This workshop held 19 Feb at 1 pm.

     Newcomer's Orientation (formerly Right Start). Inprocessing and newcomer orientation is held two Tuesdays per month at the Moody Field Club. This is a mandatory briefing for active duty personnel, and spouses are highly encouraged to attend. Right Start will be held 3 and 17 Feb at 7:30 am. 

     Group Preseparation Counseling. Accomplished using the DD Form 2648 checklist which covers Employment Assistance, Veteran Benefits, Relocation, etc. This mandatory briefing is required for every member separating or retiring from the military and is a prerequisite for attending the TAP seminar. This class needs to be scheduled 90 days or more prior to your actual separation date. The dates for this workshop are Each Tues, from 9 - 11 am.

    Ditching the Dorms. Thurs, 12 Feb, 10 am. Held the 2nd Thurs of each month, this workshop is designed to prepare Airmen for the financial changes that occur when moving out of the dorms. Bring your most recent end of month LES and be ready to complete a personalized spending plan. Finishing the course meets the requirement for the Personalized Financial Management Review and Recommendation. Reserve your seat today!


   
Spouse Predeployment. Thurs, 5 Feb, 10 am. For spouses whose sponsor is deploying or deployed to receive information about the different services available and to give them an opportunity to ask questions, meet staff and tour facility.

   Accessing Higher Education. 2-Day course, 11 - 12 Feb, facilitated by the Information Learning Center (ILC) for those continuing with their education after leaving the military. If interested, please contact Mr. Gagne at 229-257-3483. This is one of the 2-day tracks those separating or retiring are encouraged to attend.

    Spouse Employment & Training at a Glance. 1 - 3 pm, 5 and 19 Feb in Bldg 400. Designed to provide a general overview of career options to include education, certifications, portable careers, employment opportunities and trends. Registration is required.

   AFW2 Caregiver Support. Thurs, 26 Feb, 10 am. Provide support through training, peer networking, and community support for the caregivers of AFW2 members. Held monthly at Golf Course Grill meeting room.

   Bundles for Babies. Wed, 18 Feb, 9 am. Sponsored by the Air Force Aid Society, this class is open to all ranks and not limited to first pregnancy and is a wonderful way to learn parenting skills, meet other expectant parents, and receive a great gift for your valued bundle! The workshop is being held 9 am. Call to sign up please tell us if you are coming with your spouse.

   Heart Link. Fri, 20 Feb, 9 am - 2pm. This is a great opportunity to increase knowledge of the Air Force mission, culture, traditions, protocols and available programs and service in a fun relaxed atmosphere. Make new friends while learning more about the Air Force.

   Federal Employment Workshop. Fri, 20 Feb, 9 am. Learn the mechanics of developing your federal resume. Participants will learn how to determine their eligibility, search for a job, how to self-nominate for vacancies, and how to properly format the resume and supplemental information. Please call to reserve your seat.

   NCOA Career Expo. Wed, 4 Feb, 10 am - 2 pm at Moody Field Club. Military Veterans, transitioning service members, guard, reserve and spouses are invited to join us as we support experienced and diverse military talent with jobs.    Boots to Business. 5 & 6 Feb at 8 am. Learn procedures on how to start your own business, and also how to start a home based business.

   EFMP Valentine Party. Wed, 11 Feb, 4 pm. Fun family event making crafts for Valentine's Day along with snacks and drinks. Please RSVP in advance so we may provide enough treats and accountability.

    Flying Tiger Coupon Contest. 1 - 28 Feb. A&FRC will be hosting the Flying Tigers Coupon Contest in celebration of Feb's Military Saves Week!     Need full time care? CDC has immediate openings for full time care in several age groups! If you are interested in enrolling your child, age 6 weeks through preschool come by the CDC, Bldg 210, for a tour and additional information.

   
Hourly Care. Looking for time to go to the gym, out to lunch with friends or have a medical appointment? Moody Child Development Center has hourly care spaces available! Reservations can be made two weeks in advance or same day.  The hourly care fee is $5 an hour per child. All registration paper work must filled out and returned to the program prior to your child attending to include a current immunization record as well as H1N1 and Influenza vaccine documentation. If your child has a special need, child's physician will need to complete a Special Needs Package to be approved by our program medical advisor. Care space is available for children 1-4 years of age, as well as 6-12 months.  Call to make reservations or to request a tour of the facility!

     Give Parents a Break.  Air Force Aid Society’s respite care program for youth ages 6 weeks to 4 years (CDC) and in kindergarten through age 12 (Youth Center) will be on Sat, 21 Feb, from 10 am to 4 pm. To be eligible to use the program your child must have a current referral and the required documentation must be filled and returned to the program prior to making reservations.  This documentation must also include a current immunization record.  As a reminder, for those children remaining in the program after 4 pm, an additional charge of $1/minute will be assessed as a late fee. The Air Force Aid Society is not responsible for paying these late fees; but rather it will be the direct responsibility of the parents.  If you incur a late fee charge, this fee must be paid prior to you being able to utilize the Given Parents A Break Program again.  For more information and to make reservations please call.
     Eligible families include those where a parent is feeling stress due to:
     -The military member being deployed, on an extended TDY or on a remote tour of duty
     -A family crisis or emergency such as serious illness of family member, death in the family, extended illness of family members, birth of a new baby, etc.
     -Having a child with special needs
     -Unique circumstances or hardship

   
Fan Mail. Fri, 13 Feb, CDC 4 - 5 pm and PreK 2 - 2:30 pm. Parents will be asked to bring in a self-addressed stamped envelope to mail a letter to a deployed parent, grandparent or loved one. Families are invited to join in on writing, drawing and decorating this letter. Preschool classrooms will take a walking field trip to the Commissary Post Office drop box and mail off the letters on Mon, 16 Feb.

     Are You Living In Base Housing & Interested In Becoming An FCC Provider? The Moody AFB Family Child Care (FCC) Program is accepting applications for a new FCC Provider in base housing. This is an exciting opportunity to support the mission here at Moody, receive free childcare training, and bring extra income into your home. If you are a resident of Magnolia Grove or Quiet Pines and are interested in becoming an FCC Provider, please contact the FCC Office at 229-257-3907.

   
Child Care. If you are in need of full-time childcare, part-time, hourly, swings, mid-shift, evenings or weekend childcare, Family Child Care (FCC) is here to serve your need. Our Air Force Licensed and Affiliate providers can care for children with special needs, infants, and school age children. We even offer free Extended Child Care (ECC) for extended duty (EDC), returning from deployment (RHC), and primary UTA Reservist weekends (HCC). 

    Unlicensed Childcare.
Anyone who resides in base housing and cares for children for more than 10 hours per week or on a regular basis, whether paid or not, must be licensed by the Mission Support Group commander.  Individuals providing unlicensed care for children in their housing units risk losing the privilege of residing in base housing.

Students in military families can get free personalized online tutoring and homework help from live experts 24/7 at www.tutor.com/military . With tutors available to help them any time, any day in all core K-12 subjects, military students of all skill levels can achieve success this school year. K-12 children in National Guard, Reserve and Active Duty Military families are eligible to receive one-to-one academic support 24/7 in math, science, English and more, regardless of the service member's branch or deployment status at NO COST through funding by the Department of Defense MWR Library Program, the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program and the Navy General Library Program.


     Federal Daily. The Federal Daily can now be accessed through the AF Portal!  Simply login to the Portal, place your cursor on Library at the top of the screen, and from the dropdown menu click on "Databases and Online Resources", then scroll down to Federal Daily.  This service provides access to FEND, weekly updates, coverage of legal cases, benefits options review, and general employment news.  It also provides access to the Federal Employees Almanac which is updated annually with the latest federal employment policies regarding pay, benefits, time off, transition rules, retirement plans such as CSRS, FERS and TSP, and and other resources.  

     
Learn a second language online.  FREE for Air Force! There are two online offerings for patrons to learn a foreign language or who have English as a second language: 
    TRANSPARENT LANGUAGES:  Self registration in Library; use anywhere, anytime; no deactivations, self paced; broad eligibility rules; for Quality of Life for USAF personnel only; not for training purposes; 80+ languages; can learn multiple languages; emphasizes quick development of basic memorized proficiency; language support for those with English as a Second Language.  
    MANGO:  Provides 36+ languages; requires your 14-digit Library ID number to enroll (can be acquired at the Circulation Desk in the Library - but not over the phone; each lesson covers all four key-language components - Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Grammar and Culture – while maximizing comprehension and retention; once enrolled, has online customer support.

     Monthly Newcomers Tour.  Join Force Support for a FREE Newcomers Tour on Wed, 28 Jan 2015, from 8 am to approximately 2:30 pm!    Manatee Swim. 31 Jan and 8 Feb, 4:15 am. Swim with these gentle giants in the pristine, clear waters of Crystal River on Florida's Nature Coast. Kid's Night Out. Mom & Dad, want a night out but don't know what to do with the kids? Bring them to the Youth Center on Fri, 6 Feb from 6:30 - 10:30 pm for a fun-filled night with their friends. We'll have games, crafts, movies and dinner for all kids Kindergarten through 12 years old. February's theme is Hearty Party! Cost is $20 and don't forget money for movie snacks! Open Rec ends at 6 pm. KNO will offer extended care in support of the Wing Awards Ceremony! Drop off between 5:30 and 6:30 pm for a total cost of $25!

   
Give Parents a Break. Air Force Aid Society’s respite care program for youth ages 6 weeks to 4 years (CDC) and in kindergarten through age 12 (Youth Center) will be on Sat, 21 Feb, from 10 am to 4 pm. To be eligible to use the program your child must have a current referral and the required documentation must be filled and returned to the program prior to making reservations. This documentation must also include a current immunization record. As a reminder, for those children remaining in the program after 4 pm, an additional charge of $1/minute will be assessed as a late fee. The Air Force Aid Society is not responsible for paying these late fees; but rather it will be the direct responsibility of the parents. If you incur a late fee charge, this fee must be paid prior to you being able to utilize the Given Parents A Break Program again. Family Skate Night. Come skate to your heart's content Fri, 30 Jan, from 6 to 9 pm at Skate Night! From 6 - 7:30 pm is Family Skate Night and from 7:30 - 9 pm is Youth Skate! We provide skates and rollerblades but feel free to bring your own. We also have helmets, elbow pads and knee pads if needed. We will have a skate contest, limbo, dancing, music and more! Cost is $5.   Real Girls. Join YP for this 4-week program to develop an effective self-concept in girls ages 12-17. Learn media literacy, communication skills, healthy behaviors and positive relationships. The sessions will be 4, 11, 18 and 25 Feb, 5 - 6 pm at the Youth Center. Workshops will include Real Me, Media & Musical Messages, Media Stereotypes, Real Power and Healthy Relationships. Youth Employment Skills (YES). The YES program is an on-base volunteer program for high school students and is offered at selected Air Force bases. This program, underwritten by the Air Force Aid Society (AFAS), is a joint effort between AFAS and the Air Force Family Member Program Flight to offer high school students an opportunity to learn valuable work skills, "bank" dollar credits toward their post-secondary education/training, and have a positive impact on their base community. YES allows high school students to "bank" $4 in grant funding for every hour volunteered in an on-base function. Students may accumulate as much as 250 hours over all 4 years of high school combined, for a potential maximum of $1,000 toward their future academic endeavors. (P2M). Th passage from boyhood to manhood is challenging, requiring adolescent males to understand and manage many issues and transitions. Passport to Manhood addresses critical issues that young men face during this time, such as ethics, decision making, wellness, fatherhood, employment and careers, cooperation and conflict, diversity, relationships and self-esteem.     GO GIRL GO! This program uses sports and physical activity to improve the health and wellness of sedentary girls. This award-winning program empowers community organizations with education, public awareness and networking. One in three girls is sedentary, while the other gets no more than thirty minutes of physical activity a week. We get girls moving not through direct service, but by supporting programs and organizations that work with these girls. GoGirlGo! identifi es and weaves together quality resources within each community and provides comprehensive support to organizations through a hands-on curriculum and networking opportunities.     Volunteers - Looking for a way to make an impact in a child's life? Volunteer your time to be a tutor for Power Hour at Moody Youth Programs! The program runs Mon to Thurs from 3:30 to 5 pm for ages 5-12 and 4 to 5 pm for ages 13 and up. Volunteer tutors are needed to assist youth with homework and study skills in reading, math, educational games, spelling, and more! All volunteers must complete a volunteer packet complete with a reference check and base Installation Records Check.
