    General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant. Since 1942, Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) has been committed to helping Air Force members and their families realize their academic goals. AFAS awards grants for those continuing their education through the General Henry "Hap" Arnold Grant program. Application is open to members, spouses and graduating high school seniors continuing their education. AFAS plan to award up to 3,000 grants for 2015 - 2016. Deadline for submission is 13 Mar.

    Volunteers Needed! The Airman's Attic is recruiting volunteers to work from 10 am to 2 pm each Tues & Thur, and the first Sat of each month from 9 am to 1 pm. Child Care costs can be covered through the Air Force Aid Volunteer Child Care Program, utilizing the Family Child Care Providers. If you are interested, please contact the Airman & Family Readiness Center. 

EFMP Coffee Connection. Family support meet and greet working group for events and support to connect with other families. First Fri of every month. 6 Mar, 9 - 10 am due to the ACC Family Day.  

   Smooth Move Workshop. Helps member to be more prepared for PCS moves. 11 Mar, 9 to 11 am. Sign up by calling today!

Transition GPS. This 5-day workshop is designed to prepare those leaving the military with employment skills necessary to secure employment in the civilian sector. Attendees will learn the job process, understand vacancy announcements, resume preparation, the job interview, salary negotiation, and other valuable skills. The workshop will be held 9 - 13 and 23 - 27 Mar starting each morning at 8 am. Please call to sign up, seating is limited.

    Private Sector Resumé. Workshop tailored to private sector resumés for private businesses. This workshop held 19 Mar at 1 pm.

     Newcomer's Orientation (formerly Right Start). Inprocessing and newcomer orientation is held two Tuesdays per month at the Moody Field Club. This is a mandatory briefing for active duty personnel, and spouses are highly encouraged to attend. Right Start will be held 10 and 24 Mar at 7:30 am. 

     Group Preseparation Counseling. Accomplished using the DD Form 2648 checklist which covers Employment Assistance, Veteran Benefits, Relocation, etc. This mandatory briefing is required for every member separating or retiring from the military and is a prerequisite for attending the TAP seminar. This class needs to be scheduled 90 days or more prior to your actual separation date. The dates for this workshop are Each Tues, from 9 - 11 am. Please call to reserve your seat.

    Ditching the Dorms. Thurs, 12 Mar, 10 am. Held the 2nd Thurs of each month, this workshop is designed to prepare Airmen for the financial changes that occur when moving out of the dorms. Bring your most recent end of month LES and be ready to complete a personalized spending plan. Finishing the course meets the requirement for the Personalized Financial Management Review and Recommendation. Reserve your seat today!

Spouse Predeployment. Mon, 2 Mar, 10 am. For spouses whose sponsor is deploying or deployed to receive information about the different services available and to give them an opportunity to ask questions, meet staff and tour facility.

   Spouse Reintegration. Mon, 16 Mar, 10 am. Addresses the issues associated with adjusting to home life, reconnecting with family, adjusting to work and being separated from a deployment environment.

   Cancer Support Group. This support group will meet the 3rd Wed of each month, 18 Mar,  in the A&FRC with a goal to provide information, comfort, teach coping skills, help reduce anxiety and a place for people to share common concerns and receive emotional support.

   Accessing Higher Education. 2-Day course, 11 - 12 Mar, facilitated by the Information Learning Center (ILC) for those continuing with their education after leaving the military. If interested, please contact Mr. Gagne at 229-257-3483. This is one of the 2-day tracks those separating or retiring are encouraged to attend.

   Spouse Employment & Training at a Glance. 1 - 3 pm, 5 and 19 Mar in Bldg 400. Designed to provide a general overview of career options to include education, certifications, portable careers, employment opportunities and trends. Registration is required.

   AFW2 Caregiver Support. Thurs, 26 Feb, 10 am. Provide support through training, peer networking, and community support for the caregivers of AFW2 members. Held monthly at Golf Course Grill meeting room.

   Federal Employment Workshop. Fri, 20 Mar, 9 am. Learn the mechanics of developing your federal resume. Participants will learn how to determine their eligibility, search for a job, how to self-nominate for vacancies, and how to properly format the resume and supplemental information. Please call to reserve your seat.

   Win Up To $300! Stop by the A&FRC to fill out a Military Saves Pledge to be entered to win!    Flying Tiger Coupon Contest. Now - 28 Feb. A&FRC will be hosting the Flying Tigers Coupon Contest in celebration of Feb's Military Saves Week! Use  coupons as much as possible in the Moody AFB Commissary from 1 - 28 Feb and save your receipts. Bring your receipts to the A&FRC (Bldg 400) by 4:30 pm on Mon, 2 Mar. The participants with the most monthly savings will win Commissary gift cards!

   The ABCs of the TSP. Wed, 18 Mar, 11 am. Learn about Thrift Savings Plan benefits, how to set up your account, available investment options, and more!

   Living in the New Normal Institute (LINN-I). 25 - 26 Mar, 8 am - 4 pm. The Military Child Education Coalition presents a two-day institute outlining specific community resources, deployment information and practical strategies for encouraging resilience in all children.    Lifeguard Certification Course. 19 - 22 Mar. Course completes lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications, valid for 2 years, and satisfies qualifications for Moody's lifeguard hiring process. Course is $175 with payment due at registration. No refunds. Must be present for all classes to pass course. All sessions will be taught at the indoor pool training facility, Bldg 556. Passing the pretest is a REQUIREMENT for continuing this course and consists of 300 yard swim, treading water for 2 min with legs only and timed event to be finished in 1 min 40 sec.

  Spring Break STAYcation: Indoor Swim Party. Mon, 30 Mar, 2 - 4 pm. Join us for a parent and youth swim party! Music, games, give-a-ways and tons of water fun! Note: Minimum depth of the indoor pool is 4 feet. Life vests will be available for free use for non-swimmers. Open to the first 40 participants. $4 per person (ages 4 and under are free).     Need full time care? CDC has immediate openings for full time care in several age groups! If you are interested in enrolling your child, age 6 weeks through preschool come by the CDC, Bldg 210, for a tour and additional information.

Hourly Care. Looking for time to go to the gym, out to lunch with friends or have a medical appointment? Moody Child Development Center has hourly care spaces available! Reservations can be made two weeks in advance or same day.  The hourly care fee is $5 an hour per child. All registration paper work must filled out and returned to the program prior to your child attending to include a current immunization record as well as H1N1 and Influenza vaccine documentation. If your child has a special need, child's physician will need to complete a Special Needs Package to be approved by our program medical advisor. Care space is available for children 1-4 years of age, as well as 6-12 months.  Call to make reservations or to request a tour of the facility!

     Give Parents a Break.  Air Force Aid Society’s respite care program for youth ages 6 weeks to 4 years (CDC) and in kindergarten through age 12 (Youth Center) will be on Sat, 14 Mar, from 10 am to 4 pm. To be eligible to use the program your child must have a current referral and the required documentation must be filled and returned to the program prior to making reservations.  This documentation must also include a current immunization record.  As a reminder, for those children remaining in the program after 4 pm, an additional charge of $1/minute will be assessed as a late fee. The Air Force Aid Society is not responsible for paying these late fees; but rather it will be the direct responsibility of the parents.  If you incur a late fee charge, this fee must be paid prior to you being able to utilize the Given Parents A Break Program again.  For more information and to make reservations please call.
     Eligible families include those where a parent is feeling stress due to:
     -The military member being deployed, on an extended TDY or on a remote tour of duty
     -A family crisis or emergency such as serious illness of family member, death in the family, extended illness of family members, birth of a new baby, etc.
     -Having a child with special needs
     -Unique circumstances or hardship

   Dr. Seuss Week.
Mon, 2 Mar - Read Across America and Silly Sock Day. Wear mismatched socks and celebrate parents coming to read their favorite childhood series! Parents, check with your child's classroom to sign up to read.
Tues, 3 Mar - Hilarious Hat Day. Find your most comical cap to take part in a day of hat related crafts and activities. Parents, stop by to enjoy these events or volunteer to read "Cat in the Hat" to your child's class.
Wed, 4 Mar - Wacky Wednesday. Spend the day being wild and wacky! Wear your clothes inside out, backwards or any way you want! Parents, come help us read any of Dr. Seuss's wacky stories.
Thurs, 5 Mar - PJ Day. Dress in your silliest sleepwear for the day and read stories in your most relaxing attire! Shoes are still required.
Fri, 6 Mar - Green Eggs & Ham Day. Wear green to celebrate our final Dr. Seuss day celebration with green themed games and activities! Do you like green eggs and ham? Find out when we taste the famous food! Parents are invited to come read "Green Eggs and Ham" to your child's class and join us for our green eggs and ham.

     Are You Living In Base Housing & Interested In Becoming An FCC Provider? The Moody AFB Family Child Care (FCC) Program is accepting applications for a new FCC Provider in base housing. This is an exciting opportunity to support the mission here at Moody, receive free childcare training, and bring extra income into your home. If you are a resident of Magnolia Grove or Quiet Pines and are interested in becoming an FCC Provider, please contact the FCC Office at 229-257-3907.

Child Care. If you are in need of full-time childcare, part-time, hourly, swings, mid-shift, evenings or weekend childcare, Family Child Care (FCC) is here to serve your need. Our Air Force Licensed and Affiliate providers can care for children with special needs, infants, and school age children. We even offer free Extended Child Care (ECC) for extended duty (EDC), returning from deployment (RHC), and primary UTA Reservist weekends (HCC). 

    Unlicensed Childcare.
Anyone who resides in base housing and cares for children for more than 10 hours per week or on a regular basis, whether paid or not, must be licensed by the Mission Support Group commander.  Individuals providing unlicensed care for children in their housing units risk losing the privilege of residing in base housing.

   Fitness Center Shower Renovations. The women's locker room project is now COMPLETE and all facilities are fully functioning! The men's shower renovations are projected to begin 23 Feb and 50% of the showers will still be available during this  project. We apologize for the inconvenience!

Fitness on Request. Fitness on Request has been installed and is available at the Fitness Annex! This program is currently being used in over 80 military facilities around the world and offers over 50 classes including Kinetics, TKO, Zumba and more! Enjoy the benefits of classes available throughout the day on your schedule that you can schedule from your laptop! Group or individual workouts available anytime the Fitness Annex is open (Mon - Fri from 4:30 am to 10 pm and 10 am to 6 pm on holidays and family days).

   Jogging Strollers. Freedom 1 Fitness Center offers jogging strollers and bike trailers for daily check out. Moms and Dads, you can now take the little ones with you on your daily walk, jog or ride around Moody AFB. Check out is for 2 hour time periods for use on base.

    Literacy Day. Thurs, 26 Feb, 4 - 6 pm. Help us celebrate the love of books at our Literacy Fair! Children and young adults can enjoy activities, stories, displays and more! We'll have face painting, storytelling, refreshments, students will showcase their World Literature class projects and student designed artifacts will be on display!

   Troops to Teachers.
Have you ever considered teaching as a second career?  If so, eligible veterans can receive up to $10,000 through the Troops to Teachers program.  Information about this program will be briefed on Wed, 8 Apr at 9 am in the Information Learning Center, Bldg 328.

   Moody Talking Tigers Toastmasters. Join us each Thurs, 5 pm at the SPOT for an hour of professional development and fun! We provide a supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop oral communication and leadership skills, which in turn fosters self-confidence and personal growth.

    Tuition Assistance Update. We're happy to announce that Tuition Assistance has been reactivated for military members. TA briefings will be conducted on Tues at 2 pm and Thurs at 8:30 am.

    GI Bill Briefing. Second Tues of the month at 9 am.

    Commissioning Briefings. Do you have what it takes to become a United States Air Force Officer? Whether it's through an Air Force ROTC scholarship, the Officers Training School program or Commissioned Officer Training, there are a number of different ways to become an Air Force Officer, each of which open the door to an exciting career. Increase your responsibility, build your résumé, develop leadership skills, and make a difference! Briefings will be present by CGOs from various units and backgrounds that have first-hand experience in the commissioning source you are interested in. Digital Services and OverDrive Online Resource Training Aid 
Students in military families can get free personalized online tutoring and homework help from live experts 24/7 at . With tutors available to help them any time, any day in all core K-12 subjects, military students of all skill levels can achieve success this school year. K-12 children in National Guard, Reserve and Active Duty Military families are eligible to receive one-to-one academic support 24/7 in math, science, English and more, regardless of the service member's branch or deployment status at NO COST through funding by the Department of Defense MWR Library Program, the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program and the Navy General Library Program.

     Federal Daily. The Federal Daily can now be accessed through the AF Portal!  Simply login to the Portal, place your cursor on Library at the top of the screen, and from the dropdown menu click on "Databases and Online Resources", then scroll down to Federal Daily.  This service provides access to FEND, weekly updates, coverage of legal cases, benefits options review, and general employment news.  It also provides access to the Federal Employees Almanac which is updated annually with the latest federal employment policies regarding pay, benefits, time off, transition rules, retirement plans such as CSRS, FERS and TSP, and and other resources.  

Learn a second language online.  FREE for Air Force! There are two online offerings for patrons to learn a foreign language or who have English as a second language: 
    TRANSPARENT LANGUAGES:  Self registration in Library; use anywhere, anytime; no deactivations, self paced; broad eligibility rules; for Quality of Life for USAF personnel only; not for training purposes; 80+ languages; can learn multiple languages; emphasizes quick development of basic memorized proficiency; language support for those with English as a Second Language.  
    MANGO:  Provides 36+ languages; requires your 14-digit Library ID number to enroll (can be acquired at the Circulation Desk in the Library - but not over the phone; each lesson covers all four key-language components - Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Grammar and Culture – while maximizing comprehension and retention; once enrolled, has online customer support.

     Monthly Newcomers Tour.  Join Force Support for a FREE Newcomers Tour on Wed, 25 Feb 2015, from 8 am to approximately 2:30 pm! This tour is open to all military, civilians, retirees and families ages 5 and up* who are new to our Moody community or just want to find out more about what's happening around the base.  The tour includes a free breakfast and lunch, plus transportation on a guided bus tour through Moody AFB, the surrounding Valdosta area and Grassy Pond.  Come see all that the Force Support Squadron has to offer!  To sign up, send an email to or call the Marketing office at 257-2033.  Please provide your name, rank and/or status (active duty, civilian, dependent, etc.), email address and a contact number where you can be reached.  Space for each monthly tour is limited, so sign up early!

Experience extreme heights and battle your friends to the top of this 25 foot rock wall in your backyard - complete with sound system, body harnesses and trained guides! $150 an hour rental, 2 hour minimum, within 25 mile radius of Moody AFB. $100 nonrefundable deposit due at time of purchase is deducted from your total bill. Additional fee for locations outside of 25 mile radius.

   Splatter Swamp Paintball Range OPEN! Fri, 27 Feb, 6 - 9 pm.

   Palatka, FL Skydiving. Sat, 28 Feb, 6 am. Jumpers will exit the aircraft from an altitude of 13,500 feet and experience 30 to 60 seconds of free fall with a bird's eye view! Cost is $120 per person and includes transportation and admission. Bring snacks and drinks. Payment is required at time of registration. All military members must have an AF form 4391 signed by their commander by day of the trop or you will not be allowed to jump.

   Banning Mills Overnight Zipline Trip. Sat, 21 - Sun, 22 Mar. Fly over four levels of ziplines ranging 900 to 1,000 feet long and up to 200 feet high over the gorge!   Kid's Night Out. Mom & Dad, want a night out but don't know what to do with the kids? Bring them to the Youth Center on Fri, 13 Mar from 6:30 - 10:30 pm for a fun-filled night with their friends. We'll have games, crafts, movies and dinner for all kids Kindergarten through 12 years old. March's theme is Luck of the Irish! Cost is $20 and don't forget money for movie snacks! Open Rec ends at 6 pm. KNO will offer extended care in support of the Wing Awards Ceremony! Drop off between 5:30 and 6:30 pm for a total cost of $25!

Give Parents a Break. Air Force Aid Society’s respite care program for youth ages 6 weeks to 4 years (CDC) and in kindergarten through age 12 (Youth Center) will be on Sat, 14 Mar, from 10 am to 4 pm. To be eligible to use the program your child must have a current referral and the required documentation must be filled and returned to the program prior to making reservations. This documentation must also include a current immunization record. As a reminder, for those children remaining in the program after 4 pm, an additional charge of $1/minute will be assessed as a late fee. The Air Force Aid Society is not responsible for paying these late fees; but rather it will be the direct responsibility of the parents. If you incur a late fee charge, this fee must be paid prior to you being able to utilize the Given Parents A Break Program again. Spring Fling Family Skate Night. Come skate to your heart's content Fri, 20 Mar, from 6:30 to 9 pm at Skate Night! From 6:30 - 7:30 pm is Family Skate Night and from 7:30 - 9 pm is Youth Skate! We provide skates and rollerblades but feel free to bring your own. We also have helmets, elbow pads and knee pads if needed. We will have a skate contest, limbo, dancing, music and more! Cost is $5. Parents skate FREE! Snack bar available if you would like to send snack money with your child.

  Real Girls. Join YP for this 4-week program to develop an effective self-concept in girls ages 12-17. Learn media literacy, communication skills, healthy behaviors and positive relationships. The sessions will be 25 Feb, 5 - 6 pm at the Youth Center. Workshops will include Real Me, Media & Musical Messages, Media Stereotypes, Real Power and Healthy Relationships. Each participant will complete a Digital Me collage to present at the end of the program. Sign up today!

Youth will receive in depth instruction for a trained instructor. Youth who complete the course can have their name added to the Youth Center's Babyistter Roster. Open to all youth ages 11 and up.    Kick Butts Project: Billions of Butts. Wed, 18 Mar, 4 - 7 pm. Join the Torch and Keystone Club for this year's Kick Butts Project! Cigarette butts are ugly, bad for the environment and expensive to clean up. Help us take a stand as we help clean the butts in Moody's housing neighborhoods and at McKey Park. We'll also have displays and a guest speaker.

Calling all girls 9 to 18 to our annual GIRLS ONLY retreat full of fun, challenging and empowering activities that will leave you with great memories and a lot of new friends! Cost is $20 includes t-shirt, dinner, snacks and curriculum.

   Project Learn. Having trouble with your homework? Don't give up! YP has homework assistance every day from 3 to 5 pm. Get help with specific problems or general concepts, take practice tests and submit papers for feedback. Our trained staff is here for you!

Youth Employment Skills (YES). The YES program is an on-base volunteer program for high school students and is offered at selected Air Force bases. This program, underwritten by the Air Force Aid Society (AFAS), is a joint effort between AFAS and the Air Force Family Member Program Flight to offer high school students an opportunity to learn valuable work skills, "bank" dollar credits toward their post-secondary education/training, and have a positive impact on their base community. YES allows high school students to "bank" $4 in grant funding for every hour volunteered in an on-base function. Students may accumulate as much as 250 hours over all 4 years of high school combined, for a potential maximum of $1,000 toward their future academic endeavors. Passport to Manhood
(P2M). Th passage from boyhood to manhood is challenging, requiring adolescent males to understand and manage many issues and transitions. Passport to Manhood addresses critical issues that young men face during this time, such as ethics, decision making, wellness, fatherhood, employment and careers, cooperation and conflict, diversity, relationships and self-esteem.     GO GIRL GO! This program uses sports and physical activity to improve the health and wellness of sedentary girls. This award-winning program empowers community organizations with education, public awareness and networking. One in three girls is sedentary, while the other gets no more than thirty minutes of physical activity a week. We get girls moving not through direct service, but by supporting programs and organizations that work with these girls. GoGirlGo! identifi es and weaves together quality resources within each community and provides comprehensive support to organizations through a hands-on curriculum and networking opportunities.    Got an eye for leadership? JOIN KEYSTONE, TEEN COUNCIL OR TORCH.  Have a program or activity you would like to see at the Youth Center? Then come to come to any of these meetings and have your voice heard!  KEYSTONE meets every Wed from 4:30 to 5:30 pm for ages 13 to 18, TEEN COUNCIL meets the first Wed of each month at 5 pm for ages 13 to 18, and TORCH meets every Tues from 5 to 6 pm for ages 9 to 12. Teen Council. Calling all youth ages 13 and up! Are you looking for an opportunity to showcase your leadership skills? Join us monthly as we tackle today’s hot topics! Have an impact on the Youth Center and the base as you join the most elite youth club at Moody! The Moody Teen Council is supported at Air Force level. Come join us and have your voice heard!     Volunteers - Looking for a way to make an impact in a child's life? Volunteer your time to be a tutor for Power Hour at Moody Youth Programs! The program runs Mon to Thurs from 3:30 to 5 pm for ages 5-12 and 4 to 5 pm for ages 13 and up. Volunteer tutors are needed to assist youth with homework and study skills in reading, math, educational games, spelling, and more! All volunteers must complete a volunteer packet complete with a reference check and base Installation Records Check.
