Federal Resume Writing. This is a hands-on workshop being held September 20 from 9 to 11 a.m. and September 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. that explains the importance of and provides the tools necessary to build a solid resume. Participants will learn how to determine their eligibility, search for a job, how to self-nominate for vacancies and how to properly format the resume and supplemental information. You may register for this class held at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, building 400, by calling 257-3333.
Group Pre-Separation Counseling. These briefings are being held September 22 at 9 a.m. and use the DD Form 2648 checklist, which covers employment assistance, veteran benefits, relocation, etc. This briefing is required for every member separating or retiring from the military and is a prerequisite for attending the TAP seminar. This class must be scheduled 90 days or more prior to your actual separation date. Register by calling 257-3333.
Right Start. Right Start is a mandatory wing briefing for all military and civilian newcomers to Moody AFB. This briefing provides essential information about Moody and the surrounding community. Spouses are highly encouraged to attend. Briefings begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. on September 7 and 21 at the Moody Field Club.
Transition Assistance Workshop. Presented by the Georgia Department of Labor, this 4-day workshop is designed to prepare those leaving the military with the skills necessary to secure employment in the civilian sector. Attendees will learn the job process, understanding vacancy announcements, resume preparation, the job interview, salary negotiation and other valuable skills. This workshop will be held September 7 through 10 at 8 a.m. Call 257-3333 to sign up.
Key Spouse 101 Optional Training. Designed to enhance existing Family Readiness Services by providing unit leadership the option of implementing a volunteer-based informational referral network to support unit family issues. Gives spouses awareness of and connection to appropriate installation resources. This workshop will be held September 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. Call 257-3333 to sign up.
Mass Pre-Deployment Briefings. These briefings inform you of what to expect from a deployment, preparing for a deployment and difficulties accompanying deployments and how to overcome or avoid them. Additional information is provided about programs provided by the AFRC for deployed members and their spouses. Weekly briefings are conducted at 2:30 p.m. every Monday (except holidays) in building 400. If Monday is a holiday, the briefing is held the following Tuesday at the same time. Reservations are not required.

Closure. The Indoor Pool is closed for renovations until further notice. The Outdoor Pool is still available for lap swim hours. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Outdoor Pool is OPEN. The NEW Outdoor Pool is open Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. Pool passes are being sold for $30 for the first pass and $20 each additional pass (or for E-4 and below, $20 for the first pass and $15 for each additional). A one-day pass is $2 with DoD ID and $3 for a guest. Lap swim and children under 5 are free. Come out and beat the summer heat! The pool will remain open past Labor Day until further notice. Swim lessons will also continue.

2010-2011 Air Force Arts & Crafts Gallery Showcase. There are two categories: Artist-Craftsman and Photography, and three age divisions within each category: Youth ages 6 to 12, Youth ages 13 to 17 and Adults ages 18 and up. All entries must be received by October 8 for local judging on October 15, 2010. All entries will be submitted to the Air Force Gallery Showcase (whether winning entries or not). Certificates will be awarded to the top two entries in each category, and winning entries will be featured in the Moody Volunteer. Please see the guidelines and fill out an entry application. Cricut Class. This class meets every Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. and is only $5 per person. Learn basic operation of the Provo Craft Cricut Die Cutting Machine. Participants must supply their own paper. Class is approximately 30 minutes long and provides hands-on instruction. The Arts & Crafts Center offers 18 cartridges for use with the Cricut. After being certified, patrons may use the machine for $4 per hour (please call in advance to reserve the machine). Call 257-1414 for more information.
Base Resale Lot. The auto resale lot is located on Robinson Road, across from building 324 and the library. If you wish to sell your vehicle on the lot, you must register with the Auto Skills Center and pay $10 per month. Call 257-3056 for more information.

Give Parents a Break. Air Force Aid Society's respite care program for youth in kindergarten through age 12 will be at the Child Development Center and Youth Center on Saturday, September 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Care is provided for children of deployed parents, single parents and others who need a break. Referrals are required and can be obtained at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Chapel, Child Development Center or Youth Center. Call 257-3067 or 257-3935 for more information.
CDC Hourly Childcare. Want to go to the gym or out to lunch with a friend? Just have a doctor’s appointment you need to get to, and you don’t have childcare? The Child Development Center offers hourly care at $4 per child for ages 6 weeks to 4 years. All children in hourly care must have current immunization records, and parents must complete all registration paperwork. Reservations can be made Monday through Friday after 9 a.m. by calling 257-3935.

Tigers’ Den at the Club. All Moody enlisted and officers are invited to The Tigers’ Den, formerly the enlisted lounge, for an hors d’oevres buffet on September 2 in conjunction with the O-5 promotion event beginning at 3 p.m. During the renovation project in the ballroom/event & officers lounge, scheduled for completion on November 20, everyone is welcome in the Tigers’ Den. Bingo Family Night. Grab some pizza and get ready to play some bingo on Thursday, September 9, from 5 to 7 p.m.! Bingo games begin at 5:30 p.m. And after bingo, stick around for an ice cream social - vanilla ice cream with tons of toppings. Cost is free for Club members, $7 for adult nonmembers and $2.95 for child nonmembers.
MEGA Bingo. Play More Winners Mega Bingo on Saturday, September 11! Instead of one player winning one big jackpot, more players will win $100, $250, $500 and $1,000 game prizes, in addition to the $1,199 Mega Jackpot (strange amount, yes, BUT - no taxes)! Football Frenzy. Football Frenzy is back, starting September 12! Watch up to 16 NFL games each Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. on our six plasma screen TVs and two bar screens. Families are welcome in the cafe area. Enter the Couch Potato drawing each week to watch your game from the comfy recliner. Enter the Air Force drawings each week to win a chance for tickets to the Super Bowl, Pro Bowl and other prizes. Win T-shirts and hats during each halftime. Check out the Red Zone menu with your favorites - the Pro Bowl Burger, Gridiron Chicken Sandwich and Kickin' Chicken Wings. And Bud Lite pints are only $1.50! Pasta Buffet. Join us for a pasta buffet lunch on Wednesday, September 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Choose from different pasta varieties and sauces, complete with salad and bread. Cost is $4 for members, $6 for nonmembers and FREE for retirees.
Mongolian BBQ. Join us Friday, September 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. for Mongolian BBQ. Select from a variety of vegetables and meats, then have it grilled to perfection by the Club staff. Cost is $0.70 per ounce, and includes rice and rolls.

Dog Show & Rabies Awareness Clinic. Check out Moody's 2nd annual FREE Dog Show & Rabies Awareness Clinic on Saturday, September 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. - brought to you by Community Programs and the Moody Veterinarian Clinic! FREE rabies shots will be offered for cats and dogs, while supplies last. Other popular vaccines will also be available, as well as services such as micro-chipping and nail trimming (cash or check only, please). To participate in the dog show, all canines must be at least four months old, have proof of rabies vaccine and be current on all other shots. All pets must be owned by an authorized user of the Vet Clinic, and all handlers must be at least 16 years of age. All dogs must be leashed, and owners must clean up after them. The dog show starts at 9:30 a.m. and will include four categories (Most Talented, Best Dressed Buddy, Ugliest and Most Obedient), and the winners of each category will compete for Best in Show. Unlicensed Childcare. Anyone who resides in base housing and cares for children for more than 10 hours per week or on a regular basis, whether paid or not, must be licensed by the Mission Support Group commander. Individuals providing unlicensed care for children in their housing units risk losing the privilege of residing in base housing.
Providers Needed. Family Child Care (FCC) is always in search of providers for infants, toddlers, special needs children, shift work, TDY care and other unique needs. There is an FCC orientation coming up on September 13, 15 and 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on completing an application, call Rocanne Wills at 257-3907 or 563-0729, or stop by the FCC office (in building 112), Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Youth Golf League. Beginning September 14, the Youth Golf League at Quiet Pines Golf Course will run for six weeks. It will meet Tuesdays at 5 p.m. for skills development and Thursdays at 5 p.m. for team competition. Open to ages 4 and up; participants must have clubs or make arrangements prior to signing up. Tour includes one night at the Fairfield Inn in Orlando, one breakfast, VIP guided tour of Halloween Horror Nights, gratuities, 3-night Monarch of the Seas cruise and a spectacular mystery at sea! Cost for an inside stateroom is $760 per person, and cost for an oceanview stateroom is $810 per person (rates based on double occupancy). Monthly Newcomers Tour. Join Force Support for a FREE Newcomers Tour on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, from 8 a.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m.! (Tour is held the last Wednesday of every month). This tour is open to all military, civilians, retirees and families ages 12 and up* who are new to our Moody community or just want to find out more about what's happening around the base. The tour includes a free breakfast and lunch, plus transportation on a guided bus tour through Moody AFB, the surrounding Valdosta area and Grassy Pond. Summer Hours for Splatter Swamp Paintball Range. Now through September 30, Splatter Swamp will be open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for open play. The range is also available for after hours parties on Saturdays or during the week for ten or more participants. Splatter Swamp will be closed September 4, 5 and 6 for the Labor Day holiday. Wind Tunnel Skydiving Trip. Join us for an indoor skydiving adventure at SkyVenture Orlando on September 11! We'll leave base at 7 a.m. and return by 8 p.m. No experience is necessary, we expect beginners on this trip. There are a maximum of 12 spots on this trip, so sign up early! Cost is $60 per person and includes transportation, trainer and instructions on indoor skydiving, a demo from the experts and twice in the air tunnel for your own skydiving adventure. Additional costs may include lunch, photos or a DVD of your flight if you would like to purchase these items. Deadline to sign up is September 2.
Bike Ride Day Trip. Enjoy a day bike ride in the great outdoors on September 18 at Jekyll Island! Cost is $10 with your own bike or $15 with an Outdoor Recreation bike, and includes transportation for you and your equipment. Please bring your own lunch, snacks and plenty of fluids to drink. Fit Factor. All youth ages 9 and up - get your head in the game! Join us Wednesday, September 1 and 15 at 5 p.m. as we head to Splatter Swamp for paintball. Come dressed and ready for action! Cost is $20. You must be signed up by 6 p.m. the day prior.
YP Membership/Birthday Celebration. Have a birthday in the month of September? Come to the Youth Center on September 10 and celebrate your birthday; members come let us celebrate your membership! This event will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Cost is FREE for youth with a completed membership packet and $3 for nonmembers.
Thrifty Fashion Show. Got an eye for fashion? Join us throughout the month of August and September as we prepare for our first annual Thrifty Fashion Show on September 10 at 7 p.m.! All youth ages 9 and up are invited to design their own outfit, but some rules apply. All clothing items must be made from either recycled materials and/or purchased from a second-hand location. Hand-me-down items are welcome as well. This event is free for registered members!
Kids Deployment Line/Operation Respect. Calling all Moody AFB families - this is for you! Join the Airman & Family Readiness Center and the Youth Center staff as we host our annual Kids Deployment Line on Saturday, September 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.! Pre-registration for the Kids Deployment Line will start on August 1 at the Youth Center. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. on September 11 at the Deployment Center. At 1 p.m., youth ages 9 and up will load the buses and 'deploy' to Grassy Pond for the Operation Respect portion of the day. There will be a wet 'n wild obstacle course (bounce house, slip 'n slide), the wild sea obstacle (pontoon boat ride and paddleboats) and a briefing by Ms Lawanna Barron. You must have a completed membership packet and be signed up at the Youth Center to participate in Operation Respect.
Open Mic Night. Come share your talent on September 16 at 5 p.m. & September 23 at 6 p.m.! Do you have a favorite poem that you would like to share or maybe one that you have written? Share your talent at this event! Also, receive a ticket at the door for the Taco Bar social afterwards.
Kids Night Out. Mom & Dad, want a night out but don’t know what to do with the kids? Bring them to the Youth Center on Friday, September 17, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. for a fun-filled night with their friends. We’ll have games, crafts, movies and dinner for all kids in kindergarten through age 12. The theme this month is “Fiesta.” Register by noon the day of the event. Cost is $15. No open recreation is available on this evening.
Babysitters Course. Want to earn some extra cash? Become a certified babysitter! Youth Programs will be offering a Babysitters Course on Saturday, September 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Space is limited, so sign up now! For more information, contact Amy Thompson at 257-7296.
Youth Recognition Ceremony. It’s time to reflect! Join us on Wednesday, September 22, for our first youth recognition ceremony of the 2010/2011 school year. The ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m., and there will be a light reception afterwards.
Family Skate Night. Calling all parents and kids - join us for a family fun night on September 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. Bring your own skates, use our rollerblades or try a pair of our old fashioned roller skates! We will have skate contests, limbo, music and so much more. Cost is only $3 per youth. Parents and children 2 and under are free!
BGCA Day for Kids Celebration. Join us as we celebrate the BGCA Day for Kids on September 25 from 2 to 6 p.m.! There will be free snacks, prizes and great games as well. The fun is for all ages (youth under age 9 must be accompanied by a parent).
Teen Power Hour. Join your friends at the Youth Center after school for a free healthy snack and a place to do homework. Get help with your assignments from one our knowledgeable staff members. Teens may come for homework assistance and a snack beginning at 3 p.m. each weekday. This month we will be concentrating on “CAREER LAUNCH.” Homeschooled? You can still join us! Come check out the fun and creative activities that we have planned throughout the month!
Y.E.S. Program. The Y.E.S. Program is an on-base youth volunteer program funded by the Air Force Aid Society. The program allows high school students to "bank" volunteer dollar credits towards college. Students may accumulate as much as 250 hours for a potential $1,000 max over all four years of high school. Students must be a dependent son/daughter of an active duty Air Force member, must be enrolled in high school and attend full time, hours must be volunteered in an on-base position and participation eligibility and accrual of credit terminates upon high school graduation or May 31 of senior year.
